John Zell Sims was born on June 12, 1941, in Rutledge, Alabama to the Late Zell Sims and Zola Bedgood Sims. John departed his life on May 26, 2019, at 5:00 p.m.
He accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized and joined Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church in Rutledge, Alabama.
He attended Greenville Training High School and rejoiced when he received his GED/high school diploma. He gave it his all, aggressively putting forth great effort, never giving up to achieve his goal, and ultimately succeeded. This was one of the most celebrated moments of his life that friends and family shared with him.
John spent much his life farming and taking care of the animals & land around home. Enjoying the cool breeze or summer heat always, he enjoyed sitting outside on the porch, listening to his radio while filling his ears with the sweet and sultry sounds of country music. As he listened to his music, rocking smoothly & joyously in his chair or the yard swing, he would chuckle and get tickled at memories of yester years as he blurted out his thoughts. Oh how he loved life and its treasures! He was no stranger to hard work as he continued to diligently work around the home property doing the best he could until the end.
His memories will be cherished by his siblings: brother and caregiver, Benjamin Sims, Rutledge, Alabama; sister, Queenie Sims, Oxford, MS; special nieces – Deetra A. Sims Wiley (Derell), Oxford, MS; Shirlette Sims, Chicago, Illinois; and a host of family members and friends, from near and afar.
