Ella Mae Hawkins was born on September 1, 1950 to the late Eddie and Katie Lee Crenshaw in Forest Home, AL.
She was educated in the Butler County School System. After graduating from Southside High School, she entered the workforce at Boss Manufactory (Greenville, AL), Russell Manufactory (Greenville, AL) and Webster Industries (Montgomery, AL) until she became disabled.
She was united in holy matrimony to the late Robert J. Hawkins in Forest Home, AL. As part of their 10 year marriage, she gave birth to 1 child. Her earthly joy was visiting family, sewing, gardening, cooking, playing the piano and singing. When she would sing, the congregation responded in kind, with high praises to the Lord. As many of you may know, she sang with such vitality and power. She was never reluctant to give God praise, no matter where she was.
She accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age at Braggs Hill A. M. E. Zion Church, Greenville, AL and later join Zion Hill Baptist church under watch care of Reverend Charlie (C.B.) Croskery. The Lord blessed her with her mild manners and a contagious smile. It allowed her the ability to help invite many people to accept Jesus. She was always a faithful servant and member of the Church.
In 2023, she became a member of Cathmagby Baptist Church, Wetumpka, AL under leadership of Pastor Andre Morgan, where she was recently baptized. She continued to do GOD’S work at Cathmagby Baptist Church where she was truly loved, until she passed away on August 20, 2024.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Eddie and Katie Lee Crenshaw, her sisters Clara Waters, Ellis Rhodes, Bernice Stewart and brother Robert Crenshaw. She leaves to cherish her memory: her daughter Nickie (Harry) Davidson of Wetumpka, AL, grand-daughter Soquoia (Jose) Ruiz Wetumpka, AL, sister Bessie (Silas) Herbert, Forest Home, AL, brothers Henry (Bertha) Crenshaw Forest Home, AL and Willie (Dannie) Crenshaw Cleveland, OH.
