Jerry Lee McKee was born on April 14, 1937, to Asberry Rudolph and Martha Coleman in Walls, Alabama. She transitioned into eternal rest on May 21, 2022. She married Will Lee McKee on May 1,1954 they married 25 years before he preceded her in death in the 80s. Although Jerry never had any children, she adopted Melvin McKee who preceded her in death in 1994. She had 4 siblings, Jimmy (Margaret) Powell, Leslie Stone, Bernice Ruffin, and Evil May Rudolph. Her siblings and parents all preceded her in death. Mother Jerry McKee (affectionately known as “Jerry Pooh,” “Sis,” “Jet” and “T-Jerry”) had a ‘true servants' heart” that she used to serve in many ways. She was a faithful member of Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church where her roles included being in the choir, which was her first love, teaching Sunday School, being a member of the trustee board and head of the kitchen committee. Jerry McKee had a deep love for Jesus Christ and shared that love with whomever she met. She did not let her age or sickness hold her back from being with a body of believers and attended church until her health declined. Mother Jerry loved young people and always encouraged everybody to sing. This is one way in which she served the community, by playing the piano for various churches such as Damascus Baptist Church, Allen Chapel, and Hopewell AME Zion Church with exceedingly joy. She was also loved and admired for voice and some of her favorite songs to sing included “Because He Lives,” “May the Work I’ve done Speak for Me,” “Amazing Grace,” and “I Know My Redeemer Lives.” Mother Jerry also had a strong will, anything she set her mind to, she would do! She recorded a record in which she sang Hide in Thy Bosom and Just One Moment in God’s Kingdom. Getting her high school diploma was also particularly important to her. It was hard for her to do because she worked full time and took care of two children. She would go to night school and would get back up at 5am to do it all again the next day. In May of 1982 she finally received her GED which would become one of her proudest achievements. Later since would go to become a Certified Nurse's Aide which she used to work in the healthcare field caring for the elderly until her health began to deteriorate. She helped raise many of her nieces and nephew and generations of people in her community through her love. She leaves to cherish her memories Justin (Convonta) Stone, Charlene Stone, Miracle Stone, Gwen (Minister Alvin) Pugh, Dianne (John) Murphy, a sister, Violet Jackson and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. T-Jerry was a second mother to many of us and will be missed dearly.
