John David Fails, age 72, passed away peacefully at Crowne Health Care, on December 26, 2025. He was born on June 8, 1953, in Greenville, Alabama to the late John Henry Fails and Gertrude Fails Payne. David graduated from Southside High and went on to attend Alabama A. & M., where he pledged Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc and graduated with a degree in Agriculture.
He was married to the former Katherine Little. Together, they had two children, Kyle and Andrea. David earned his active-duty commission through the Reserve Officers Training Corps into the United States Army as Second Lieutenant in the Ordnance Corps in December 1974. After separating from the military, David returned home to Greenville where he drove trucks for Builders Transport; and subsequently worked as the manager of the ABC Store, Greenville, Alabama.
David united with the Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church at an early age. He reunited upon his return to Greenville and served for a while as a Sunday School Assistant Superintendent and a member of the Male Choir.
David’s special interests and hobbies included raising a family, music, dancing, singing, plumbing, and farming.
He is survived by his son Kyle D. Fails, Sr. and daughter Andrea Fails; 3 grandchildren (Jamellia, Michael, and Kyle, Jr.); 1 brother (Kenneth); 1 sister (Faye); and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his brothers (James, Eric, and Doug) and his sister (Linda).
