Lola “Mook” Carter Jenkins was born on January 4, 1931 to the late Ollie & Sarah Carter of Braggs Hill, AL. Lola was educated in the Butler County School System. After graduating from high school she was united in holy matrimony to the late Willie Simmons, Sr. of Braggs Hill, AL and one child was born, Willie Simmons, Jr. After a divorce she moved to Mobile, AL, where she met and married Nathaniel Jenkins and worked more than fourty years as a presser at Quality One Hour Cleaners in Mobile, AL, early joy was dressing sharp, visiting family, singing, talking junk. So if you miss “Mook” from singing down here and you can’t find her no where come on up to Bright Glory she will be singing up there!!!
She accepted Christ at an early age and joined Braggs Hill A.M.E. Zion Church and later joined Union Baptist Church of Mobile, AL where she was a faithful servant until her health started to decline. She was preceded in death by her parents Ollie and Sarah Carter; her husband, Nathaniel Jenkins; brothers, Earnest, Milton, Ollie, Ozell Carter; sister, Bernice Grimes and granddaughter, Quadayza D. Simmons.
Lola leaves to cherish her memories a son, Willie (Patricia) Simmons, Jr. of Forest Home, AL; sister, Essie Waters of Forest Home, AL; grandchildren, Yoneshia Simmons and Aeric Johnson of Dutchbend, AL, James Herbert of Bragg Hill, AL, Olivia Dunklin of Columbus, GA, and Zaachaeus Johnson of Braggs Hill, AL; bonus grandson, Teryl Myles of Gordonville, AL; great grandchildren, Quandranvious Simmons and Telishia Smith of Montgomery, AL, Nykia and Chrishawna Davidson of Dutchbend, AL and a host of nieces, nephews, and other family and friends.
