On Friday, June 24, 2022 at 7:00 pm Mr. Robert “Nate” Shanklin, went peacefully home to be with the Lord. No more suffering, no more pain. He was finally at peace.
Robert was born March 11, 1953 to the late Willie Oliver and Bennell Shanklin. He was the seventh of eight children to this union. One sister Margaret and three brothers, Willie Frank, Earl and Floyd preceded him in death.
Robert was baptized to the body of Christ when he was a very young boy. He remained a very faithful member of Union Baptist Church since childhood. He was an usher until he became ill.
Robert graduated from John F. Kennedy High School in 1971 in Cleveland, Ohio. After graduating high school, he attended Alabama A&M University in Huntsville, Alabama for two years. Robert was also a successful Nationwide insurance agent for many years. He was here in Alabama helping his parents when he suffered a brain aneurysm. After recovering he moved back home to care for his parents. He not only took care of his parents, but many of the elderly people and others in the community. He was never selfish, always giving and sharing unconditionally with others.
He was a member of the fraternal order of Masonic Mason. He was employed with Dongwon, Luverne, Alabama for fifteen years. This is where his fellow workers started to call him Mr. Robert. He loved being called Mr. Robert by everyone there but for us we called him Nate or Po Pete. He was a very proud independent strong man filled with lots of knowledge and wisdom.
Nate leaves to cherish his love and memories with three sisters, Rose M. Lewis, Gwendolyn M. Fluitt both of Cleveland, Ohio and Bennie Gayle Shanklin of Cincinnati, Ohio. Fifteen (15) Nephews, Sixteen (16) Nieces, one brother in law Dan Dunlop, Cleveland, Willie Freeman and Columbus Tucker were like brothers. Gracie Kelley A special friend and confidant. Ride or die buddies/friends Kenny Wheatley and Charlie “CP” Price, cousin Charlie C. Roper who’s always near giving insightful words of wisdom and a helping hand. A host of other relatives and friends near and far.
