Obituary

Vera Feagin Colvin the eighth child of Pearlie Griffin Feagin and Harrison Feagin was born on January 6, 1935, in Greenville, AL. She received her formal education in the Butler County Public School System, graduating from the Greenville Training School.

At an early age she joined Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church, where she was baptized and remained a faithful member until her death on September 15, 2023, in Greenville, AL.

Vera met and married William Colvin, who preceded her in death. To this union eight children were born. Three of whom, Robin, Shelia, and Cathie, preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by two sisters; Lillie Mae Simpson and Luemma Rutledge, and four brothers; Eddie Paul Feagin, Nealy Feagin, John Alfred Feagin, and Governor Feagin.

She never met a stranger and if they were they did not remain so for long. Her genuine friendliness, sense of humor and care for others served her well in life and in her chosen professions. She served as a teacher’s aide at McRae-Helena Elementary School in the public school system of Telfair County, Georgia. Later, Vera transitioned into a long and fruitful career in retail. She worked at the retailers B.C. Moore and Sons, Allied Stores, Howard Brothers Discount Stores, and Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. In life, she made friends easily, establishing lifelong friendships with many she met, and gained the hearts of many that found her to be the perfect surrogate mother.

She leaves to cherish her memories her children: Royce (LaJuana) Colvin of York South, Carolina, Rhonda Colvin of Fort Valley, Georgia, Lynda (Manson) Myles of LaGrange, Georgia, William Colvin of Greenville, Alabama, Andrew (Monique) of Powder Springs, Georgia, and William (Cheryl) Shanklin of Troy Alabama. She will be deeply missed by her brother, Leroy Feagin, and her grandchildren; Denise Colvin, Royce Colvin, Jr., Tiana Myles, Mikka Myles, Malcolm Colvin, Vera Moorer, Jacobi Shanklin, and her greatgrandchildren: Sydnee Colvin, Adrienne Colvin, Kendre Bullard II, Theodore Hyde, Jr., Tia Myles, Emmanuel Myles, Genuine Fantroy, Alexa Shanklin, Nora Shanklin, Levi Shanklin. A host of family and dear friends are also left to treasure her memory.

“Wait on the Lord: Be of good courage, and He shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the Lord.” Psalms 27:14
