Willie Thompson Obituary

Ecclesiastes 3:1-2…

There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under heaven:

A time to be born… Our brother Willie “Frank” Thompson was born March 7, 1945 to the late Lee Frank and Beulah (Lewis) Thompson in Greenville, AL. He was the third child of nine.

Two sisters preceded him in death: Mattie Pearl Thompson and Annie Ruth Steele.

Frank was educated in the Butler County School System; he graduated from Greenville Training School (Southside High) Being a young man growing up in Greenville, Frank was a hard  worker; he was employed by Spears Hospital, Greenville Golf Course and Jernigan Furniture Store. Frank began to long for a better life so he headed off to Chicago, IL; there he found an ideal job at Spiegel's’ Warehouse and W. F. Halls’ Printing Company for over twelve years; but duty called for him to serve in the Armed Forces of The United State Marines, his tour of duty lasted four years. He served as a Military Police and Lance Corporal. Frank journey took him to Spain, San Diego, California, Hawaii, Morocco and many other places to sight see.

Frank was a fisherman, a great cook of bbq, he loved sports: Auburn Football, Chicago Bulls, Chicago Cubs, these were his hobby.

Frank longed for his hometown and Birmingham after leaving the Marines. He moved back to Greenville once again being the hard worker that he was he sought employment  with Foster manufacturing, Greenville Apparels, Allied Signal and retired after working for International Papers for eighteen years. Frank lived in the Mt. Zion Community for over thirty years; he embraced the country living.

A time to die…. Willie Frank battled Lymphoma Cancer for over five years, the Lord said the road had became rough  and on August 3, 2019 he closed our dear brother eyes to rest. Frank was a resident at Crowne Health Care when he passed away. The staff there loved his well mannered behavior and demeanor.

A time to mourn…. Our brothers’ life, his smile and well mannered behavior will be cherished by all of us. His two brothers: J C (Geraldine) Thompson, Midland, Ga and James Edward Thompson, Atlanta, Ga; His four sisters: Mariyln (Herbert) Brown, Chicago, IL, Sarah (Clarence) Jones, Birmingham, AL, Beulah D. Thompson and Kathie Thompson-Adams both of Greenville, Al; His nieces, nephews, cousins and friends; Four godchildren: Jackie, Jarvis, Jarkei Hamilton and Jan Frazier; eight god grandchildren; devoted neighbor: Catherine Jordon; His buddies “very devoted friends” Tommy Goldsmith, Travis Goldsmith, Betty Ann Goldsmith, I V Ball and Tamp Ball.
